The Power of Place: Apply Environmental Psychology to Senior-Focused Community Design is a webinar presentation about the using the combination of aesthetics and psychology when designing senior living environments.
The presentation explores how to unleash the "Power of Place" in the design of senior community ith tools used by environmental psychologists. This new approach to research-based, residential-focused architectural design combines aesthetics and psychology. This presentation, which is both theoretical and practical, encourages participates to increase their understanding of how this approach will improve the quality of their communities' environments.
About the Speakers Kaye Brown, Ph.D. Editor, Biological Anthropology & Anatomy Duke University Medical Center Dr. Brown develops and serves as the acquisition editor for two upper-level college textbook series in human biology for John Wiley & Sons. She edited the leading international journals in biological anthropology, is an Eden Associate, member of the Pioneer Network's Coalition Committee, past Chair of the NC Coalition for Long-term Care Enhancement, Chair of SAGE North Carolina and a graduate of AAHSA's CASP program. She is secretary of the SAGE Foundation, a licensed building contractor and a Certified Aging-in-Place Specialist (NAHB). Andrea Hyde, ASID, AAHID, CIDMD President, Hyde Inc. Ms. Hyde's experience with senior living designs spans more than 20 years. She and her award-winning healthcare-focused design firm help senior-living communities provide the function and quality service in attractive, homey settings that today's seniors demand. Her firm uses resident-focused and evidence-based design approaches for all of its senior living projects and works with caregivers and administrators from concept through opening. She has worked with some of the nation's top senior living developers, including Presbyterian Homes of Maryland, The Brethren Home, Genesis Eldercare, Marriott Health Services, and Maryland-based Erickson Retirement Communities. Beverly Brandon, AIA President, Ammon + Brandon Architects Inc. Ms. Brandon has been designing senior living communities for more than 28 years. She has designed continuing care retirement communities, assisted living residences, senior housing and healthcare centers. Recently, she has been involved with existing retirement communities who are expanding their continuum of care to include more independent living units, assisted living residences, wellness/fitness centers and special care residences. She is working with these communities to assess their existing systems and infrastructure to help them determine the best strategies for the future.
