System Implementation and Integration examines the growth of data standards in the Healthcare IT industry, focusing on the challenges to standardization, barriers to change, and how healthcare 3.0 along with Google and Microsoft's focus on personal health records will influence the industry.

John Hummel, Chief Technology Officer of Healthcare at Perot Systems, will address these questions along with a discussion of the recent toolsets (software-as-a-service, virtualization and SOAs) that are helping bring the topic of standardization into focus.

A well-known and highly respected leader in the healthcare IT industry, Mr. Hummel serves as Chief Technology Officer (CTO) for Perot Systems Corporation's healthcare group. In this role, Mr. Hummel works with our clients to ensure they are ready for the future changes in clinical technology, clinical informatics, and the business of healthcare information.

Mr. Hummel joined Perot Systems from the California Prison Healthcare Receivership. The Receivership was a historic federal court takeover of California's failing prison healthcare system, which was declared “Unconstitutional due to the deaths of inmates due to below third-world country care levels of medical quality and safety.” Mr. Hummel was charged by five federal courts to ensure that the most clinically, technically, and cost-effective tools were designed and deployed to help repair this badly damaged healthcare system.

Mr. Hummel previously served as senior vice president of information services at Sacramento, California-based Sutter Health, where he oversaw the systems' business and clinical transformation. Mr. Hummel's award-winning career spans nearly 30 years of national and international healthcare venues, as well as numerous leadership positions. In addition, Mr. Hummel has been heavily involved with National Efforts on Interoperability as a Commissionaire on the CCHIT Commission, National Healthcare IT Policy with NAHIT, and Newt Gringrich's Center for Healthcare Change and the CalRHIO group.
