Most of the corporate revenues listed are self-reported. Addiction Professional magazine, Vendome Group’s practical guide to effective addiction treatment and prevention services, has been awarded a first-place Gold Award from the American Society of Healthcare Publication Editors (ASHPE) for its March/April 2009 issue article on treating the high-functioning alcoholic.
 |
The article, written by licensed counselor Sarah Allen Benton of the Emmanuel College Counseling Center in Boston, received the first-place award in the “Best How-To Article” category in ASHPE’s 2010 Awards Competition. “Treating the High-Functioning Alcoholic” advises addiction counselors on how to overcome challenges in treating individuals who have been able to maintain an outside life while still drinking to alcoholic levels. |
Many of these individuals will point to the successes they have been able to achieve at work and in their family life as evidence that they don’t need treatment for their alcohol use. Benton, author of the book Understanding the High-Functioning Alcoholic: Professional Views and Personal Insights, counteracts these arguments and gives clinicians clear advice on how they can achieve breakthroughs, including by taking advantage of the goal-oriented nature of these patients.
“We are truly honored to be recognized by ASHPE for this article,” said Addiction Professional editor Gary Enos. “The ‘how-to’ article category is particularly meaningful to us because it speaks to Addiction Professional’s mission: to give addiction counselors the practical tools they need to deliver excellent care for their clients in need.”
Since the publication of Benton’s article, her work and her book have received a great deal of attention nationally, including coverage in 2009 in The New York Times.

NEW YORK, October 22, 2009 — Healthcare Informatics webinars, a division of Vendome Group, will present a live webinar on Oct. 29, 2009, on user authentication strategies in healthcare with an in-depth look at biometrics. This program, User Authentication: Can You Make Clinicians Happy and Maintain Compliance?, will feature Mike Wisz, a consultant who has worked with a wide range of healthcare organizations and Gary Moon, a security analyst for Saratoga Hospital in Saratoga Springs, N.Y. Each presenter will discuss how to best provide authentication methods that comply with regulations while meeting the needs of clinicians.
 |
Data security in healthcare presents some unusual challenges with clinicians needing quick access to systems when lives are at stake. At the same time, IT professionals in healthcare must meet myriad federal and state regulations to protect data on patients. Compliance in this area is a must as it can affect the reimbursements healthcare providers receive as well as causing possible fines and other actions by authorities. Biometrics is one solution that is drawing favorable reviews in some healthcare organizations, according to Wisz. |
This free, one-hour program is sponsored by Digital Persona, the leading provider of fingerprint identity solutions for enterprises, retail/restaurant POS, custom application developers and consumers. The company offers software and hardware that protects people and businesses by enabling them to control their digital identities.

Renowned architect and product designer to open industry's best-attended and most respected conference on evidence-based design for healthcare in Orlando, Florida, October 31 – November 3, 2009.

New York, NY (April 29, 2009) – Vendome Group, publishers of HEALTHCARE DESIGN magazine, and The Center for Health Design (CHD), a nonprofit research, education, and advocacy organization, today announced that architect Michael Graves will be the opening keynote speaker at the HEALTHCARE DESIGN.09 conference.
HEALTHCARE DESIGN provides educational opportunities and forums for those who design, build, and renovate healthcare facilities. It is the largest and most comprehensive educational conference of its kind, and was attended by more than 3,500 people in 2008.
Mr. Graves, FAIA, who has been in the forefront of architecture and design since he founded his practice in 1964, has been credited with broadening the role of the architect in society and raising public interest in good design as essential to the quality of everyday life, most commonly recognized through his designs for domestic products that are sold at Target stores throughout the United States. A native of Indianapolis, he received his architectural training at the University of Cincinnati and Harvard University. In 1960, he won the Rome Prize and studied at the American Academy in Rome, of which he is now a Trustee. In 1962, Graves began a nearly 40-year teaching career at Princeton University, where he is now the Robert Schirmer Professor of Architecture, Emeritus. He has received 12 honorary doctorates and is a member of the American Academy of Arts and Letters, as well as a Fellow of the American Institute of Architects. His practice has evolved into two firms: Michael Graves & Associates, which provides architecture, master planning, and interior design services, and has designed over 350 buildings worldwide, and Michael Graves Design Group, which specializes in product and graphic design, as well as branding services.
In 2003, a sudden illness left him paralyzed from the waist down. Now confined to a wheelchair, Graves' designs continue to combine simple utility, functional innovation, and formal beauty with his now deeper understanding of the importance of accessibility and patient-centered design in the healthcare sector. Five years after the illness that changed him forever, Graves and his team are hard at work on many healthcare design projects, including a line of home healthcare products that fuse one-dimensional medical utility with style, multifunctional elegance, and beauty.
"We are delighted and honored to have someone of Michael Graves' stature to keynote this event," says Debra Levin, President and CEO of The Center. "Michael's stated design philosophy—that healthcare settings need to serve those who work and receive care in them—is very much in alignment with The Center's mission to transform healthcare environments through design research. We look forward to what we know will be an engaging, dynamic, not-to-be-missed keynote presentation that will set the tone for the rest of the event."
"Michael Graves' participation in this year's HEALTHCARE DESIGN Conference shows the importance that we, as well as our partners at CHD, AIA AAH, and ASID place on this event, and our commitment to ensuring that we continually search for those people that are not only promoting, but improving, the healing environment," says Eric Woods, Vice-President and Managing Director of Vendome Group. "Michael brings a wealth of knowledge and insight, setting the stage for what will be not only the best HEALTHCARE DESIGN Conference to date, but the most significant design conference this year."
In addition to HEALTHCARE DESIGN, Vendome Group and The Center produce Environments for Aging, a conference designed to educate architects, designers, builders, owners, and government agencies on the planning and design of next-generation,

elder-friendly environments, and X3 Summit, a unique event that focuses on the fusion of technology, clinical care, and facility design, and explores how to financially maximize their interaction.

(March 4, 2009—New York, NY)—The April 2009 issue of Fair Housing Coach will mark the 41th anniversary of the Fair Housing Act by giving residential multifamily housing owners and managers a chance to test their knowledge of fair housing law, announced Mark Fried, Vice President and Managing Director, Vendome Group, LLC.

|
|
The Fair Housing Act (FHA) was signed by President Lyndon B. Johnson on April 11, 1968, and protects Americans against discrimination based on race, religion, gender, age, ethnic origin or disability. HUD and its Office of Fair Housing and Equal Opportunity, which administers and enforces federal laws and policies pertaining to fair housing, has designated April as Fair Housing Month. "The rules forbidding outright housing discrimination seem fairly straightforward, but telling staff not to discriminate against prospects and residents is not enough to avoid fair housing trouble," says Fried.
|
Fair Housing Coach is the only training newsletter that can help owners and managers reduce their risk of a fair housing violation and an expensive fine. To help reinforce fair housing principles, the April issue will feature a 25-question quiz, designed to test the understanding of veteran residential housing owners and staff, and provide an overview for new staff members.
To coincide with Fair Housing Month, Vendome also plans to release the Second Edition of its Complete Guide to Fair Housing Training, a comprehensive training guide for residential property managers. Each lesson in the book is tailored to a specific topic and begins with an overview, followed by rules for avoiding fair housing trouble, and a short test.

Invitation-only event brings together healthcare C-suite leaders, policymakers, and architects to explore challenges and opportunities of integrating technology into healthcare facility design and care processes.

New York, NY (February 23, 2009) – Healthcare Informatics Magazine, the only publication focused solely on servicing acutecare
C-suite IT leaders, and The Center for Health Design (CHD), a nonprofit research, education, and advocacy organization, are
launching a new, executive conference, X3 Summit, to be held in San Francisco, CA, on June 14-16.
X3 Summit is a unique event that will focus on the fusion of technology, clinical care and facility design and explore how to
financially maximize their interaction. Participants will discuss new advancements and their implications in developing, financing, and operating future facilities. They will also participate in identifying and establishing a research agenda to help make the business case
for the technology and facilities investments made by organizations.
|
|
|
|
|
"As awareness of evidence-based design increases and the body of evidence grows, more and more people have sought to
build hospitals with the guidance of research. But, up until now, there was no event specifically examining the confluence of technology,
facility design, and innovations in clinical care," says Debra Levin, President and CEO of The Center. "Success will come from
understanding and matching the requirements of all three forces." |
"X3 Summit provides a forum that will take the magazine content and apply it to everyday obstacles
faced by healthcare
executives," says Anthony Guerra, Editor-in-Chief of Healthcare Informatics magazine. "Attendees will discuss the issues that CIOs,
CTOs, and other executives ask us to address every day: What is the future of technology in healthcare, and how can it be
implemented in a financially viable manner?"
Healthcare Informatics, published by Vendome Group, is the first business publication to focus on the development and
implementation of information systems in healthcare. Its goal is to provide timely, high-

for executives and managers on the IT decision-making team in healthcare facilities and organizations of all types. CHD has been
working to improve the quality and safety of medical facilities for the past 20 years, focusing on the use of evidence-based design to
improve outcomes for patients and staff and to improve the bottom line.
X3 is the third event that Vendome Group and The Center have partnered on. Together, they have produced Environments for
Aging, a conference designed to educate architects, designers, builders, owners, and government agencies on the planning and design
of next-generation elder-friendly environments, and HEALTHCARE DESIGN, which provides educational opportunities and forums for
those who design, build, and renovate healthcare facilities. HEALTHCARE DESIGN is the largest and most comprehensive educational
conference of its kind, and was attended by more than 3,500 people in 2008.

(December 19, 2008, New York, NY)—In FY 2008, the New York City Fire Department issued 34,119 fire safety violations. New York City apartment building owners and managers can learn how to avoid becoming another statistic by reading the exclusive one-on-one interview with Noel Miller, Deputy Chief Inspector of the New York City Fire Department, which is featured in the 2009 New York Apartment Law Insider Directory Issue, according to Mark Fried, Vice President and Managing Director, Vendome Group, LLC.
Miller, who has been responsible for developing the citywide resident sprinkler unit inspection and testing procedures, explains why apartment building owners need to be more proactive, instead of waiting until the last minute to deal with fire safety violations. In addition to walking apartment owners and managers through an inspection, Miller cites the most common violations.
"We are excited about the 2009 New York Apartment Law Insider Directory Issue, which is in a new 8-1/2 x 11 format, and contains a 30-page Directory of Services—everything from accountants to window guard manufacturers," Fried said. |
|

|
In addition, to the interview with Miller, the issue also provides new information on notifying tenants about air contamination report results, as well as a Building Management Calendar for January-February 2009. Vendome Group is pleased to announce the acquisition of Healthcare Building Ideas from Atlanta-based D&D Communications Group, LLC. Healthcare Building Ideas is a national trade publication that reaches 20,000 healthcare design and construction professionals.
 |
|
Healthcare Building Ideas is an ideal complement to Vendome's six leading healthcare magazines and a perfect strategic fit with the company's award-winning HEALTHCARE DESIGN and its sister conference, the best attended and most respected conference on evidence-based healthcare design. Healthcare Building Ideas expands HEALTHCARE DESIGN's editorial coverage and focus on the building science and engineering technologies surrounding the construction and renovation of healthcare facilities from the inside out. |
The vital communication between design, construction, and facility teams will be at the forefront, presenting key information from the perspective of those responsible for the construction and engineering of healthcare buildings—buildings that operate 24/7, demand high levels of occupant safety, and must accommodate fast-moving changes in technology.
With a circulation targeting the key decision makers in the healthcare construction process — including engineers, construction managers, architects, planners, and facility managers — Healthcare Building Ideas sheds new light on the conversations between these groups that make all the difference in successful building projects.
Healthcare Building Ideas will be folded into Vendome's Healthcare Division under the management of Group Publisher Mike O'Donnell and sold by the HEALTHCARE DESIGN team. Editorial management will be led by Todd Hutlock, who was named the Editor-in-Chief of HEALTHCARE DESIGN effective January 2009.
"We are very excited to add Healthcare Building Ideas to our portfolio. The acquisition will enable Vendome to leverage its sales, editorial, marketing, and production resources while providing our advertisers with opportunities to reach both the design and construction audiences within the healthcare vertical," says Mark Fried, Managing Director and VP of Vendome's Healthcare Division.
Speaking on behalf of D&D Communications, President David Corson commented: "We are proud of the progress that Healthcare Building Ideas has made in the four years since we launched the title.
