About the Speakers


Donald McKahan, AIA, FACHA


Donald McKahan is a Health Facility Planner, Architect and founder of McKahan Planning Group. His 35 years of professional experience include the planning and design of numerous healthcare facilities including: Hospitals, Ambulatory Care Facilities, and Master Planning for both new and existing healthcare campuses. His research on the future of health facilities has been tapped by Adventist Health Services, Lakeland Health System, Sharp Health, the Health-Forum Magazines and the American College of Healthcare Executives.

 

 
D. Kirk Hamilton, FAIA, FACHA


Mr. Hamilton, a scholar-practitioner, is currently a tenured Associate Professor of Architecture at Texas A&M University and a Fellow of the interdisciplinary Center for Health Systems and Design. His area of interest is evidence-based design for healthcare and the relationship of facility design to measurable organizational performance. He has recently completed a Master of Science in Organization Development at Pepperdine University.


An ACHA board certified healthcare architect with more than 30 years experience in hospital design, Hamilton is a frequent speaker and lecturer on health facility design. He was a founding principal of Watkins Hamilton Ross Architects in Houston, and leader of Q Group Advisors, the firm's consulting division. He continues to collaborate with the firm in the consulting practice associated with his scholar-practitioner role, bringing current practical experience to graduate students.




 
Francis Murdock Pitts, AIA, FACHA, OAA


Frank is the founding partner and president of architecture+. He has earned a national reputation for his work in the planning and design of behavioral healthcare facilities for special populations, long term care and secure institutions. In recognition of his valuable work in this profession, Frank has served as President of the AIA's Academy of Architecture for Health and continues to be an active volunteer and contributor to this organization and numerous others committed to the advancement of healthcare architecture.
