Healthcare Settings as Workplaces: A Fresh Look at Patient Safety is a webinar presentation looking at the design and workflow of healthcare facilities and their impact on the professionals who work there with a focus on improving workplace conditions.
The release of the first IOM report on patient safety was a wake-up call to the way healthcare is practiced and delivered in the United States. The public, whether healthy or infirm, is now more aware of hospital management and medical practice than ever before. The communities of medicine, nursing, information technology and architecture are responding well to the alarm with a tremendous effort on patient safety and patient and family well-being. Healthcare has implemented practices such as patient-centered care, patient-focused care and family-centered care. And, yet, there remains a piece of the puzzle missing.
Healthcare settings as a place of work, however, have not been addressed sufficiently in research and professional literature. Our expert speakers take a look at the healthcare workplace through a mechanistic lens regarding the key team members, their individual processes and workflows as well as the physical demands. This presentation provides participants with insight into the flow of patient care through the caregiver as well as the crucial role workplace issues play in enhancing patient safety and well being.
