About the Speakers



David Cowan, EDAC,
Program Director, Executive in Residence
Georgia Institute of Technology
Health Systems Institute

David has twenty six years of experience in healthcare planning and management. He is currently serving as an Executive in Residence and Program Director of the Health Systems Institute at the Georgia Institute of Technology. As Executive in Residence he frequently lectures in the graduate classes and mentors the students. As Program Director he plans and organizes industry sponsored Graduate Research Assistantships for each of the Masters Students. He is an integral part of the Executive leadership of the Health Systems Institute. He maintains an active healthcare consulting practice as President of Management Systems Consultants. This firms serves a variety of Healthcare clients in the areas of healthcare information technology, facilities planning, financial turnarounds, and strategic planning.

Prior to joining Georgia Tech, he served as Vice President, Performance Improvement with VHA for four years, leading Performance Improvement efforts for 54 Georgia Hospitals and Executive Director of Satisquest, a patient satisfaction survey and consulting company.

David was the founding President of the Georgia Chapter of the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) in 1984. He is a Fellow in HIMSS and has served as the Chairman of its National Conference. He is also a Fellow in the Healthcare Financial Management Association. He is a Senior Member of the Institute of Industrial Engineers and currently serves on the national board of the its Society for Health Systems


 
Joe Leger, RCDD
Principal
EDI, Ltd

Joe Leger is a managing principal with EDI. He earned a B.S. in Communications from Cal State University Long Beach. He is Registered Communications Distribution Designer. Joe started EDI's Seattle office in 2004 and has seen it grow rapidly. Joe has extensive experience and knowledge in technology systems in healthcare facilities. He has been working in healthcare facilities for 17 years.

Additionally, he is active in the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) and the American Society for Healthcare Engineering (ASHE). He has presented at the ASHE-PDC Annual conference, Healthcare Design and has presented "Technology in Today's Hospital" to designers of healthcare facilities in multiple venues in the United States and Canada. He has also written numerous articles on the role of technology in healthcare.
