Untitled Document

Electronic Document Management Systems — A Step Toward EHRs examines electronic document management systems (EDMS) which are, for many facilities, a necessary first step towards electronic health records (EHRs). EDMS offer the promise of immediate delivery from mountains of paperwork and the prospect of full-featured EHRs.

In this program, IT consultants Michael Cohen and Margret Amatayakul walk participants through the strategies and tactics to consider in ensuring your document management and document imaging systems fit into your long-term IT strategy.

Training Objectives

You'll learn how to make sense of the confusing and sometimes contradictory options you have to achieve your patient safety, quality and efficiency goals:

  • What does this alphabet soup mean to your organization
    • EDMS, DIM, WFM, and ED/CM
  • Is EDMS an EHR? Is EDMS separate or part of an EHR?
    • How do EDMS and EHR serve different masters?
    • What to consider in moving to paperless including cultural, organizational and ownership challenges.
  • Implementation, migration and management issues
    • Does EDMS create or resolve the issue of hybrid records?
  • How do you decide what strategy should you adopt?
