The Hospital of the Future Isn't What You Think It Is - Care Delivery and Its Impact on Design is a webinar presentation of the new issues and technologies that will create the "hospital of the future" and its impact on healthcare facilty design and planning.

In a time that seems like ancient history, facility planning and design was largely driven by the Hill Burton Act and fee-for-service care. Today, hospitals must consider new issues including planning codes, JCAHO revisions, and rising costs, as well as transformation of care including safety, telemedicine, and error reduction. These issues and others drive new discussions about the "hospital of the future," what it is, and where it will be.

This webinar presentation provides a brief background on space drivers of the past, how delivery system changes will impact planning for the future, and how healthcare leaders can work together to make rational facility planning decisions.

About the Speaker
s

Terrie L Kurrasch, FACHE
Sr. Associate, Strategist/Planner
Ratcliff

Ms. Kurrasch has an extensive background in strategic and facility planning and healthcare administration. She has worked in hospital and healthcare organizations, and as a healthcare management consultant, providing guidance and structure to the planning process for a number of complicated programs and projects. At Ratcliff, she has led the analysis of operations, called process mapping, which Ratcliff conducted in conjunction with the development of the space program for a large renovation and expansion project. Ms. Kurrasch is able to provide project teams with a unique perspective on healthcare operational and policy issues, translating to planning and design options which are more completely informed and useful as physical master planning and architectural design take place. She is a Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives and an Associate Member of the AIA.

David F. Chambers
Director of Planning and Architecture
Sutter Health
For over 20 years, Mr. Chambers has evolved architectural planning concepts through envisioning optimized patient flows as the value stream, driving out waste and enhancing quality outcomes. His planning concepts have led to "one-stop" patient intake centers, integrated interventional services platforms, and deeper implementation of acuity adaptable inpatient nursing platforms. In addition to overseeing billions of dollars of planning implementations, Chambers is named as a source for the Healthcare Advisory Board and the Rice Building Institute. He consults with international healthcare authorities and presents at national symposiums and congresses, and in 2007, was named one of the "Twenty who are making a difference" in Healthcare Design Magazine.

Gary M Burk, AIA, NCARB
Principal for Healthcare
Ratcliff
Mr. Burk has led the healthcare practice at Ratcliff since 1996, where he has provided project organization, management and planning direction for a number of complex assignments. His experience in leading and managing diverse groups of healthcare administrators, managers, medical staff, and physicians in reaching consensus on complicated questions of operational and facility needs was critical to the success of the recently completed Trauma and Critical Care Building at Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno (in collaboration with RTKL/Chicago). In 2007, he was invited to participate in the "Building Institute" sponsored by Rice University. Mr. Burk is a member of the AIA Academy on Architecture for Health, an associate member of the California Hospital Association, and a former board member of the Society of Professionals in Healthcare. He earned his master's degree in architecture from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, and his bachelor's degree from Texas Tech University.
